SuggestRun: Provide suggestions for Windows Run feature

Windows run prompt is quite good if you want efficient way of handling stuff. I almost end up running most of the things using the run prompt. Even though Windows 7 and Windows Vista’s search box has made it almost redundent to use the run feature, I am sure some of you still would find it the most convinient way to launch applications and programs.

SuggestRun is program like Windows Start>Run menu with suggestions functionality. It’s quite helpful to discover new features which you might not be aware of.

How to disable This Program Might Not Have Installed Correctly in Windows 7

Did you ever get irritated by Windows trying to tell you “This Program Might Not Have Installed Correctly“, once you try to install a new software. Although you know that the program you tried installing installed correctly. You might also be confused that you did something wrong and hence the program did not install correctly. Well in mostly likely case the program got installed and the pop up is just a false positive.

We will see how to get rid of this. If you are not comfortable turning it off as you are new to computers, please leave it as it is. However, in this tutorial we’ll see how to turn off this so called feature of Windows 7. The problem is sometimes Windows 7 shows this message even if the program is correctly installed. So it’s wise to disable this feature.

To disable this feature:

1. Bring up the run command and type “services.msc” (without quotes).

2. Right click on it and click stop. Now we have stopped this service from running in the background. However, it’ll start again when you reboot your Windows.

3. Once the service is stopped, right click on it again and go to properties.

4. In the next window, from the Startup type drop down, select disabled. Click apply.

Now next time when you restart your computer this feature will be gone for good.

Add administrative tools to Windows start menu

With any operating system I like the idea of being in control and hence I want to have access to all the administrative tasks. This is more so in Windows. After all the reason we have windows is for ease of use. Let’s see how to enable all the administrative tools in Windows 7 to be shown in the start menu. Administrative tools help you access power user settings like firewall, managing hard disks etc. These tools are available in the “System and Security” settings under control panel. However, it’d be much easy to have them in the start menu

Add administrative tools to start menu

1. Right click on empty area of the taskbar and click properties.

2. You’ll see the the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window popping up. Select the “start menu” tab and click customize.

3. Scroll down to System administrative tools and check the radio button that reads “Display on All Programs menu and the Start menu”

4. Click OK and apply. Now you can see administrative tools in the start menu meaning you don’t have to go to control panel all the time.
